This week Kourtnee’s Top Ten was created by yours truly Mommy Machelle. She has been busy trying to get all her homework done in time for the end of the term at school. Kourtnee inherited my “putting everything off until the last minute” gene and we have a tight policy on carrying a 3.0 GPA or higher or she loses her cell-phone for the next quarter. Ya I’m a mean mom and so far she has managed to pull it off but after looking at her grades last night I’m just a wee bit worried. She has until Friday so we will see what happens.

Here is my top ten list of what I think Kourtnee would be interested in reading:

Kourtnee’s Top 10 Facts Of The Week

1. Mosquitoes have 47 teeth
2. Strawberries contain more Vitamin C than oranges
3. You share your birthday with 9 million others in the world
4. The average American will eat 35,000 cookies in his/her lifetime
5. Strawberries are the only fruits whose seeds grow on the outside
6. The city of Los Angeles has three times more automobiles than people
7. The year that read the same upside down was 1961. That won’t happen again until 6009
8. If you doubled one penny every day for 30 days, you would have $5, 368, 709
9. Chewing gum while peeling onions will prevent you from crying
10. The average human will eat an average of 8 spiders while sleeping

That’s it, that’s what I came up with. Now I have to sit down and figure out #8 with the pennies. That blows me away, I just might have to explore a new way of saving for my kids college. LOL!

My daughters top ten was the #1 search on my site for the last week so I thought it deserved it’s own category on MommyMachelle.  Kourtnee is of course elated and has agreed to share these important facts with us on a weekly basis. So here we go another top ten facts my teenager finds interesting.

Kourtnee’s Top Ten Most Interesting Facts:

#1-The human body can survive longer without food than without sleep. While starvation takes a few weeks you would die after about 10 days without sleep.

#2-With more than 250,000 sweat glands each, your feet are among the most perspiring parts of the body. In one day, each foot can produce more than a pint of sweat! (Now she knows why her feet are so stinky!!)

#3-The 57 on Heinz ketchup bottles represents the number of varieties of pickles the company once had.

#4-Karaoke means “empty orchestra” in Japanese.

#5-1 in 5,000 north Atlantic lobsters are born bright blue.

#6-You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching TV.

#7-Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least 6 feet (2 m) away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush. (I’m sure the dentist also recommends my 3 year old stop putting the toothbrush in the toilet.)

#8-A car that shifts manually gets 2 miles more per gallon of gas than a car with automatic shift.

#9-Children grow faster in the springtime.

#10-On average, there are 178 sesame seeds on each McDonald’s Big Mac bun.

My daughter is constantly asking me about this or that and as she gets older, it gets harder to answer her question. So I always refer her to the Internet. If you look at her on-line searches of course my space and y-tube is on the top of the list but then comes ask.com and wiki as she is always starving for statics. So the other day she was asking me about something, I can’t remember what it was but I told her to look online as I didn’t have the answer. As she was researching her question she ran across this list of thousands of interesting facts and precedes to start reading them off to me, one by one. I of course was busy fixing dinner and was only half heartily listening to her. After about fifty facts that didn’t relate to anything I was currently focusing on (not burning the pork chops) I told her to pick her favorite 10 and write them down and I would read them later.

She did just that and a few days later I sat down and read her list. OMG is all I can say. To have the worries and interests of a 14 year old would be so refreshing right now considering the only facts or statistics my life revolves around are bills, budgets and how much I can actually accomplish in a 24 hour period.

Here we go – Kourtnee’s Top Ten Most Interesting Facts:

• There are 18 different animal shapes in the animal cracker cookie zoo
• There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos
• Most lipstick contains fish scales
• The first product to contain a bar-code was Wrigley’s gum
• Camels have 3 eyelids to protect themselves from blowing sand
• Recycling 1 glass jar saves enough energy to watch TV for 3 hours
• More people use blue toothbrushes than red ones
• A person uses approximately 57 sheets of toilet paper each day
• Apples are more efficient than caffeine in keeping you up in the morning
• Your sneeze travles out of your mouth at over 100 m.p.h.

So there you have it, these are the things that interest out teenagers. I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. Thanks for the important facts Kourtnee, you have inspired us all!!
